About Botswana Agate

Botswana agate are found mostly in Botswana, Africa with fine banding of white, black, gray, and salmon hues. It is also found in Morocco, Czech Republic, Brazil and the United States.

For thousands of years they have been used for cameo and intaglio carvings. They were used as amulets and talismans since ancient Greece times. Agate was discovered in the grave of the "Griffin Warrior" that was dated around 1500 B.C. Many believe Botswana agate will ward off spiders.

Hardness: 6-1/2 to 7 (Mohs)

Care of Botswana Agate

Botswana Agate is sensitive to heat, do not use steam to clean. Clean using a soft cloth and warm water.   Do not use abrasive cleaners.  As with most gemstones, ultrasonic cleaners are not recommended. Store in a soft case away from hard objects to prevent scratches.
