Moonstone is named for its glowing sheen that resembles moonlight. Structural anomalies within the crystal formation create an effect of a floating light or sheen called adularescence. Moonstone can belong to different members of the feldspar group, especially Orthoclase and Oligoclase. Deposits of Moonstone exist in India, Sri Lanka, Myanmar , Australia, Madagascar, Tanzania, and Brazil.
Some ancient cultures believed the stone was created from moonbeams and thought to bring its wearer good fortune and feelings of love and affection.
